LIp COLORS that never let me down
More than 80 percent of us wear lipstick. If you’re reading MediumBlonde, I’m guessing you’re one of them. And while so-called National Days (Caesar Salad Day…really?) are pretty silly, tomorrow is National Lipstick Day, and I thought I’d use it as an excuse to share (and re-share) some of my all-time favorite lipcolors.
Nine times out of ten, I wear Fresh Tinted Lip Treatment in Petal. I wrote a love letter to this universally-flattering lip color here—and I have half my friends in Ann Arbor wearing it now too. It's the most flattering, versatile, comfortable lipcolor I’ve ever owned. I own half-a-dozen tubes and stash them in bags, drawers and car cup-holders so I’m never without one.
My other daily obsession is Smith’s Minted Rose Lip Balm, which I detail here. This is what I wear to Orange Theory Fitness, to walk the dog—and to bed each night. It is super moisturizing and imparts just the slightest hint of pink. I also use it to soften or add shine to a dark or semi-matte lip color, respectively.
For occasions when I want to be more "done" (evenings, work events), these are my go-tos:
This summer, I've been experimenting with Julep It’s Whipped Lip Mousse in XOXO, a deep berry that dries to a comfortable semi-matte finish. It's quite bright so, if I want to tone down the color a tad, I blot my mouth on a tissue, then tap my Smith’s Balm on top. I wrote about this amazingly non-drying lipcolor collection here.
If I'm after a deeper neutral lip than Fresh Petal, I swipe on NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikujien.
And my favorite reds (for after 5pm) are Armani Rouge d’Armani Lipstick in 400 and Vapour Beauty’s After Glow Multi-Use Palette (three berry shades that double as cheek colors).
I also love a novelty and adore my Sassy Lips Can You See Me Now? shade-morphing lip color (it changes from orange to a peachy pink on your lips). This product is almost (almost) too pretty to use, as it boasts a real flower inside the orange, jelly-like bullet.
Finally, I’m always on the lookout for something new, and recent interviews with Erin Cotter at GOOP and the founders of La Ligne (for a freelance project), have me coveting their favorite everyday, easy-to-wear lipcolors: Kosas Lipcolor in Rosewater (Erin) and Cle de Peau Beaute Lipstick in Bamboo (Meredith, Molly and Valerie of La Ligne). Bamboo, an understated pinky brown, is en route to my house as I write!
So, on the brink of National Lipstick Day, what are some of your favorites? Tell us all in the Comments below!
