Three Not-Boring Neutrals

Three Not-Boring Neutrals

If you read Monday’s post, you know I spent the past week on the road (and in the air). I discovered so. many. amazing. products. But, to avoid overwhelming you with a list as long as my arm, I’m parceling them out in a series of posts. To start, these three dusty-blue finds are surprisingly versatile—like neutrals (but not) that will break you out of a beige/brown/pinky-nude rut.

Essie Nail Lacquer in Mooning This shiny lacquer is like baby blue and sage green had a baby (pictured above and at right). Part of Essie’s new nine-color Wild Nudes collection, it’s an understated hue that isn’t especially daring (fine by me) but is also not the same-old, same-old. I’d wear it on fingers or toes (or both, which I plan to do once my bruised toenails have grown out; this polish is not dark or opaque enough to conceal discoloration). It is already sold out on essie.com, but you can still find it on amazon.com—or in-store at Targets and other drugstores nationwide.

Le Metier de Beaute Limited Eye Colour Collection in Cool I’m not a big eyeshadow wearer. Most days, I just tap a little eyelid primer on and call it a day. But this five-color palette includes an ivory I’d wear anywhere, anytime, plus understated sage, grey-blue, slate, and greyish-plum I’d wear layered, then blended, for a smoky look in the evening. I have blue eyes and think it probably does suit lighter (blue, green, hazel, violet) eyes best.

Cuyano Classic Leather Tote Okay, I know MediumBlonde is not a fashion blog. But makeup mogul Bobbi Brown once said at a press event that she considers wearing a pink scarf akin to face-brightening makeup, so I’m including a tote in this post. Almost every beauty editor who went on last week's Mary Kay press trip was carrying one of these soft-as-butter (and reasonably priced: $175) totes. One of my favorite publicist friends, Jaime, also showed up to a lunch carrying a Cuyano she’d monogrammed with her initials. Everyone raved about how this bag was both roomy and light. It comes in lots of easy-to-wear shades, but in the spirit of not choosing caramel or ecru for once in our lives, it also comes in a dreamy Sky Blue.
