Spend Or Skip? Évolis Reverse Activator For Thinning Hair (UPDATE!)
I have been using the Évolis Reverse Activator for about a month now. It is worth noting that I did not stop using minoxidil (specifically this one from Nioxin) because Maria Halasz, Évolis' CEO, said that could cause shedding for a few weeks, making it hard to properly review Évolis. So I’ve been applying a one-two punch of minoxidil topped with the Evolis treatment twice daily, and although it is still early days, I do have new hair growth. For sure.
At first I thought the new growth was breakage, but then on closer inspection, I saw the baby hairs were uniformly placed and were popping up along my part, hairline, and temples—exactly where I’ve been applying the Évolis treatment.
Also, I went to get my hair highlighted last Friday, and my colorist Caroline commented on how much denser my hair felt. She brought it up without prompting from me—I swear. She also pointed out that I had more root regrowth than I typically do, which may be due to accelerated growth (a good thing if you want to grow out your hair. . .less exciting if you pay for salon haircolor every six to eight weeks).
So, is my hair now Connie Britton-like? Um, no. If the Évolis Activator did that, don’t you think I’d be writing IN ALL CAPS to invest in the company—stat? But I definitely do have scalp coverage in spots that were thinning just six weeks ago. And while I've not conducted any scientific tests on my hair follicles, it seems to me that, while the minoxodil was helping promote healthier growth and certainly keeping the thinning from getting worse, Évolis goosed new growth.
This does not mean it will work for everyone. Remember, as I outlined in my initial post on the Évolis Activator, it does work differently than minoxidil. So, for some, minoxidil may do the trick. For others, Evolis is what stops hair fallout and stimulates new growth. Or maybe, as I am finding, they work well together too.
It is also worth noting that if you are experiencing an alarming amount of hair loss, please see your doctor. Minoxidil or Évolis cannot cure an underlying health condition that's triggering the hair fallout.
